This is a woodblock in colors by the Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano. It is titled "Butterflies" It is a stamped signature in the image. This is most likely a posthumous printing done in an unlimited edition. The image measures 21 1/2 x 15" and the paper measures 23 3/4 x 18". There is some staining along the top margin- old glue residue from a previous masking tape hinges- it does not go into the image. There are slight handling creases throughout otherwise the piece is in good condition.

Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the wood grain patterns to lender the textures and the mood to the works.
