KAORU KAWANO, 1916-1965, PRODUCED A WHOLE SERIES OF LITTLE GIRL STUDIES. ALL ARE CHARMING. EACH FEATURES ANOTHER CREATURE, OFTEN BIRDS BUT HERE A BABY - ALLUDING TO THE CHRIST CHILD OF COURSE. LIKE KIYOSHI SAITO AND OTHER 20TH CENTURY WOODBLOCK ARTISTS, HE DELIBERATELY USED THE WOODGRAIN FROM SPECIAL BLOCKS TO ENHANCE THE VISUAL IMAGE. THIS PRINT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHER THAN A VERY SLIGHT MATT BURN TO THE RIGHT OF THE IMAGE. THE PRINT HAS KAWANO'S SEAL IN RED AND A PENCILLED SIGNATURE IN ENGLISH. THE IMAGE SIZE IS 10" x 14 3/4". THE PAPER SIZE IS 11 1/4" x 17".

Artist Bio: 
Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the wood grain patterns to lender the textures and the mood to the works.
