OFFERED IS THIS KAORU WOODBLOCK PRINT OF A WOMAN HOLDING A BABY UNDER HER ROBE. WITH THE CROSS IN THE BACKGROUND I SUSPECT THIS TO BE A REPRESENTATION OF THE VIRGIN MARY WITH THE BABY JESUS. THE SIZE IS 10 1/16" X 14 7/8". THE SIZE OF THE FRAME IS 16" X 26". THE WOODBLOCK IS MOUNTED ON BOARD WHICH IS MOUNTED ONTO A CLOTH LINED BOARD. THE CONDITION IS VERY GOOD. IT IS PENCILED SIGNED IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER. THE AGE IS FROM THE 1950'S TO THE EARLY 1960'S.

Artist Bio: 
Kaoru Kawano was a very popular artist for his distinctively styled depictions of figures, especially children. He uses the wood grain patterns to lender the textures and the mood to the works.
