| Notes (first edition)?: |
This scene is by Ishiwata Koitsu (signed Toko), not by Tsuchiya Koitsu or Kawase Hasui. On later (post-war) editions the publisher Doi Eiichi changed the artist seal to that of Kawase Hasui, I assume to increase sales because Hasui is a far more recognised artist.

Very fine c. 1933 impression by Toko (Ishiwata Kôitsu / Koitsu) entitled "Moonlight over Enoshima Beach " . Enoshima has been a popular excursion destination for a hundred plus years . Nearby Enoshima Island (seen as a shadow behind the tree limbs) is a leafy 1000-year-old religious site with three shrines. The print itself measures 15 1/2" x 10 1/4" and the image is 9 1/2" x 14 1/4" . It is in good condition w/ no fading. Framed in the late 70's and hung in a windowless hallway for a few years until the décor changed. Quality paper w/ one deckle edge . Sold in its black " bamboo " like wood frame . |
