Notes: 'This work illustrates the Nihon bridge enveloped in a light morning mist. A good composition, a fine work with well-harmonized color scheme', notes Narazaki. The Nihonbashi was the starting point of the Tokaido; the bustling commercial area surrounding the bridge was likewise referred to as Nihonbashi. The early Nihon bridge would have looked very different from the western-style bridge of Hasui's day. - Hotei Vol.1

日本橋を飾る青銅製の角柱の高さを生かした縦の構図が印象的な作品。
石造の日本橋の美しさが見事に表現されており、日本橋川の水面や夜明けの空の繊細な表現ともあいまってこの時期の日本橋を描いた代表作です。

"Nihonbashi Bridge" an original Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui! This is a nice, rarely seen print of Western-style architecture in Tokyo, dating from 1940. This print is in overall good to very good condition. The margins are clean, the colors are good, but there are multiple pinholes at all 4 corners and in the middle of the upper and lower margins. This damage might not be as noticeable if the print was framed with a white background. It is an early edition print with a Watanabe F seal (used 1934 - 1941). The image size is oban, about 10 x 15 inches.

川瀬 巴水。1883年（明治16年）5月18日 - 1957年（昭和32年）11月7 日）。大正・昭和期の浮世絵師、版画家。1918年 （大正7年）、風景画家として世に出る。以後、数多くの木版画を発表。 衰退した日本の浮世絵版画を復興すべく吉田博らとともに新しい浮世絵版画の叙情的世界に、自然に肉薄する近代人の視点を導入することにより、独自の世界を展開した。享年74歳。 |
