Kawase Hasui Original Woodblock Print - 1936
Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) This print by shin-hanga master Kawase Hasui is titled "Mount Fuji at Funatsu, Yamanishi". It is dated Showa 11 (1936) and bears the Watanabe C seal (or "sausage" seal) in the bottom right hand margin, which was applied by the publisher to prints manufactured between 1929 and 1942.
Additionally, the print bears the artist's signature in black ink in Japanese, along with his flower seal or sui in red ink in the bottom right-hand corner.
Image size is 28.5cm (W) x 39.5cm (H).
Good registration and colour. Good bleed-through of pigment to the verso.
No folds or creases. No foxing or toning. The print has full margins and has never been set down.
Overall condition is excellent. A very pleasing rural subject, with Mount Fuji providing a majestic back-drop as chickens scratch in the farmyard while the farmer toils on a crisp, clear winter's day.
