This is original Japanese woodblock print by rarely seen shin hanga artist Kitani Shigusa (1889-1947) from the series “Dai Chikamatsu zenshu” furoku mokuhan - `Shinju yoi koshin´ no Ochiyo ( The heroine Ochiyo in `Shinju yoi koshin´ by Chikamatsu Monzaemon, from the “Complete works of Chikamatsu”. Created c.1922-26. As we know this series contains 12 prints (each done by a different artist). This print reproduced in“The female image (20th century prints of Japanese beauties)”, pg.107. The print is not trimmed or setdown. Never been framed or mounted. Excellent impression, colors and registrations - pristine condition. Has artist’s seal and signature. Self published. As all prints in this series carved by Yamagishi Kazue and printed by Nishimura Kumakichi. Dai-oban 17 7/8" x 11 5/8".
