Japanese woodblock print by great shin-hanga artist Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Moon at Umagome" from the series “Twenty views of Tokyo” (Tokyo nijukei, Umagome no tsuki).
The print is dated Showa 5 (1930).
Probably the most famous Hasui night view - reproduced on the dust jacket of Kendall H. Brown Hasui’s catalog raisonne. One from the best Hasui’s night views - very romantic.
Signed by artist Hasui, has seal “Sui” in the image and titled in kanji at the left margin.
Faded example will have the yellow inks used for the moon and farmhouse window faded to white.
Oban size 15 1/2" x 10 1/4". There is also a koban edition made to be inserted into the catalog for the Hasui retrospective show at the Folk Museum, Tokyo, 1990. This scene was also published in a koban size as a limited edition of 120 prints for the 2002-published "First day cover" catalogue, and for the Ota-ku/Yamanashi Kawase Hasui exhibition catalogue circa 2010.

The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies:
Offered for sale is a wonderful Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957), titled Full Moon at Magome, 1930. This print is illustrated at pl. 169 of Kawase Hasui Mokuhangashu (Kawase Hasui Catalogue of Woodblock Prints), Narazaki, Muneshige, ed., (Tokyo: Kodansha & Mainichi Shinbun, 1979). This print lacks a Watanabe publisher's seal. We believe that it is a post- war printing since the paper is consistent with that used in the late 1940s/early 1950s and there were also some first edition, late 1940s designs acquired in the same collection (and to be offered shortly on our website).
This print is has very good color and condition, although there is a scratch across the top left corner and a crimp in the bottom right margin corner. The image measures approximately 14 ¼ by 9 ½ inches, plus full margins.
