Size: c. 10.04 x 14.96 inches (25,5 x 38 cm), oban. 川瀬巴水　 「日本風景集II 関西篇」　 宇治平等院鳳凰堂　 サイズ： 約３９cm×２６cm Documentation: Kawase Hasui: The Complete Woodblock Prints, Hotei, 2003 Byodo Temple, formerly the villa of Fujiwara-no-Michinaga, was converted into a temple by his son, the Kanpaku (Imperial Regent), Fujiwara-no-Yorimichi, in 1052, during the glory period of the Fujiwara family. Phoenix Hall was built in the following year. A National Treasure, it is the only building dating back to the time of the temple's establishment. Its graceful appearance conjures up a paradise dreamed of by the Heian aristocracy. The garden, designated as a special place of scenic beauty, is a relic of the Heian Period. This majestic garden centers around Phoenix Hall and incorporates the surrounding natural scenery, including the clear water of the Uji River and the mountains in front.
	Notes (this edition)?:	The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies: This is an early first state Hasui woodcut print from Japan. It is in very good condition with good color. It is approx. 10 1/4 x 15 1/4 inches. It has the large 7mm Watanabe seal. The print dates to 1933 and I believe it is called "Byotoen Ugi Kyoto". This is written in pencil n one of the side margins. This is NOT a later re-strike.
	Artist Bio:	川瀬 巴水。1883年（明治16年）5月18日 - 1957年（昭和32年）11月7 日）。大正・昭和期の浮世絵師、版画家。1918年 （大正7年）、風景画家として世に出る。以後、数多くの木版画を発表。 衰退した日本の浮世絵版画を復興すべく吉田博らとともに新しい浮世絵版画の叙情的世界に、自然に肉薄する近代人の視点を導入することにより、独自の世界を展開した。享年74歳。
