Modern 24 Paragons of Filial Piety Artist: Kuniyoshi Format: Oban tate-e: 14.5" x 9.75"
Subject: In the background in an oblong cartouche Taishun (T'a Shun) hoeing a field with the help of an Elephant, in the foreground the modern equivalent of the same subject in modern Edo. An extremely rare series, apparently unknown to Robinson. Like the Elephant prints in Kuniyoshi's other Filial Piety series, this design represent the masterpiece of the set.
Date: c. 1852
Condition: Very good colors. Trimmed to borderline at right and base. Soiled bottom right. A little rubbed. Album binding holes restored along left edge. Two tapes at superior corners on verso. Minor creases, marks and flaws. Generally good state of preservastion.
Impression: Fine impression with strong woodgrain visible in the background. |
