Kunisada2- Murasaki Shikibu Genji Karuta- 54- 1.jpg is:
Illusration of Chapter 34, "Wakana-no-jo" ("New Herbs: Part One") from "The Tale of Genji" (the 11th century novel written by Lady Murasaki) by Kunisada II (1823-1880). Published by Tsutaya Kichizo the 11th month of 1857. The print depicts well-wishers presenting gifts symbolizing long life to Prince Genji on the occasion of his fortieth birthday. There are embossed highlights in the title cartouche at the upper left. The "aratame" censor's seal and publisher's seal are at the lower left. The signature and date seal appear at the lower right. Vertical oban print measuring 13 5/8"V x 9 5/8"H. A few tiny pinholes and minor thinned areas to the fine paper. Fair impression quality. Baren marks are clearly visible on the back.
