The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies:
Longing for a Rendezvous, from the series Thirty-two Fashions of the Day, by Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1864) While working in the same period, the prints created by the artists of the Utagawa school differ from those of Eisen. The women depicted by Kunisada do not seem as malicious as Eisen's women. They seem to have a somewhat brighter demeanor. This is one print of a series that shows individual women in some action. Here the woman reads a letter and her expression seems to show that she's made a date with a lover. |
