One of Hasui's most famous and favorite prints from his Fuji Series - this one entitled "Evening at Tago-No-Ura". It is a lovely early evening scene of a farmer slowly wending his way to his barn with a full wagon load of hay on a horse drawn cart. The farmer is seen silhouetted between a stand of tall pine trees - with the always magnificent Mount Fuji in the distance lighted by the late afternoon sun. This print, made originally in 1940, was published by Watanabe - who is best known for publishing the majority of Hasui's prints. |

The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies:
This print is authentic, not restrike or reproduction. I guarantee it. This is an genuine original Japanese woodblock print by great shin-hanga artist Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) titled "Evening at Tagonoura ". The print is dated Showa 15(1940). Some prints by Hasui offered now on ebay are later editions of much less quality (sometimes from recarved blocks) This one is the first edition published by Watanabe in 1940, and bears appropriate Watanabe prewar “C” seal on the right margin. One from the best Hasui’s view of Mount Fuji. Great impression, good color and registration. Signed by artist Hasui, has seal “Sui” in the image and titled in kanji at the left margin. Top margin’s slightly trimmed. Oban size 15 1/4" x 10 1/4". |
