| One of Hasui's most famous and favorite prints from his Fuji Series - this one entitled "Evening at Tago-No-Ura". It is a lovely early evening scene of a farmer slowly wending his way to his barn with a full wagon load of hay on a horse drawn cart. The farmer is seen silhouetted between a stand of tall pine trees - with the always magnificent Mount Fuji in the distance lighted by the late afternoon sun. This print, made originally in 1940, was published by Watanabe - who is best known for publishing the majority of Hasui's prints. |

Fantastic image woodblock by famous Japanese woodblock artist Kawase Hasui (1883 - 1957). The title of this print is "Evening At Tago Ura". Entire print measures 10 1/4" x 15 1/4", and the image measures 9 3/4" x 14 1/4", and has the 6mm Watanabe seal. STRONG COLOR print has not been laid down, has good margins, with no rips, creases, or staining. This print came from an estate collection that had a large portfolio/book of Japanese woodblock prints that were from the 1940's and 1950's, and early 1960's.

川瀬 巴水。1883年（明治16年）5月18日 - 1957年（昭和32年）11月7 日）。大正・昭和期の浮世絵師、版画家。1918年 （大正7年）、風景画家として世に出る。以後、数多くの木版画を発表。 衰退した日本の浮世絵版画を復興すべく吉田博らとともに新しい浮世絵版画の叙情的世界に、自然に肉薄する近代人の視点を導入することにより、独自の世界を展開した。享年74歳。 |
