One of Hasui's most famous and favorite prints from his Fuji Series - this one entitled "Evening at Tago-No-Ura". It is a lovely early evening scene of a farmer slowly wending his way to his barn with a full wagon load of hay on a horse drawn cart. The farmer is seen silhouetted between a stand of tall pine trees - with the always magnificent Mount Fuji in the distance lighted by the late afternoon sun. This print, made originally in 1940, was published by Watanabe - who is best known for publishing the majority of Hasui's prints. |

The following information was taken from the original web listing of this artwork. Note that there may be some inaccuracies:
This is an original oban size, shin hanga Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui titled "Evening at Tagonoura", dated Showa 15 ( 1940), and sealed in the image by the artist. The print was published by Watanabe Shozaburo and bears the Watanabe 6mm seal which makes this print a lifetime edition (published during Hasui's lifetime). Fine impression, color and registration. No foxing, toning, folds or creases. The print is not setdown or trimmed. There is some very faint matburn on the verso of print where the back of the print came into contact with paper with an acid content. This does not affect the image. Paper size is 10.5" x 15.5".
